The collie rough or smooth coat

The Collie can have a rough or a smooth coat. The Collie itself is a large, lean, strong
dog. The top of the head is flat and the eyebrows are arched. The muzzle is the muzzle is
rounded tapering to the black nose, with a slight stop and the head is wedge-shaped. The teeth
meet in a scissors bite. The eyes are almond shaped and can be dark brown except the blue
merles where the eyes can be blue or the they can have one of each color. The tail is moderately
long with an upward twist or swirl at the end and is carried low. The rough coat is long and
abundant all over the body but is shorter on the head and legs an the coat forms a mane around
the neck and chest. The outer coat is straight and harsh to the touch, and the undercoat is soft and
tight. The smooth coat variety has a short one inch coat all over the body. Coat colors on both the
rough and smooth variety include sable and white, tri color of black, white and tan, blue merle or
predominantly white with sable, tri-color or blue merle markings. The Collie is a highly
intelligent dog. If the Collie doesn’t have a good owner they can become stubborn and willful
dogs. The height of the male Collie is 24-26 inches and the female is 22-24 inches. The weight of
the male Collie is 60-75 lbs and the female is 50-65 lbs. Some of the health problems that the
can have are PRA, eye defects and hip problems. Collies may need sun block for their
nose because they are sensitive. They can live anywhere from 14-16 years. They need to be
brushed out every week to keep their coat looking nice.
